“Celebrate Summer…A relaxed fashion Show”

We celebrated summer here at Scarlett’s Feathers on Friday, July 13th, with a glorious fashion show featuring my Embellished Denim Collection. Held outside on the brick walkway in front of Scarlett’s Feathers, Pam, Lynn, Heidy and Alli strutted their stuff to the wonderful music by DJ PERETTE. Behind the scenes, Vicki, Elizabeth, Marge and Wendy busily helped the girls change outfits while Rod kept everyone moving in step to the LINE UP schedule. As I narrated, it was a thrill to see my creations on those gorgeous models and watch the enthusiastic reaction from our audience.

Featured Artist for April, Jill Krasner

Please join us on Thursday, March 29th, from 6-8PM for the Opening Reception of Scarlett’s Feathers sixth Featured Artist Exhibit “Birds of a Feather” by Jill Krasner. Known for her mixed media collages featuring whimsical portraits of kooky women with exotic birds, Jill says her work is an expression of her travels along life’s path…a sometimes complicated, frequently challenging journey of love.

March Happenings from Scarlett’s Feathers

I’m glad to report that the parking meters and pay stations are things of the past here in downtown Sarasota. It was a fierce battle to get the Commissioners to back off. The first day without parking fees a few Tuesdays ago, brought all kinds of people into Scarlett’s Feathers. One couple told me they came downtown for the first time since the meters were put in place back in May 2011. Wow, what a long 10 months that was for downtown businesses. Now if we could only get the City Engineering Department to schedule construction during the off season so that entire downtown shopping districts are not cut off during “season” we’d have a better world here in downtown SRQ. I am still astounded that the Ringling Blvd. construction includes a round about at Pineapple and another one at Orange. Has anyone from the Engineering Dept. actually checked to see if the buses and trucks that use the heavily trafficked intersection at Ringling and Orange will be able to negotiate the curve of the circle-to-be? I suspect that traffic will be backed up and interfere with the Main St. / Orange Ave. Intersection. Does anyone care???

In addition to attending numerous strategic meeting to overcome the Commission, Scarlett’s Feathers has been busy setting up the next Featured Artist show. Jill Krasner, a multi-talented…multimedia artist will be here on Thursday evening (March 29th, 6-8pm) for the Opening Reception of her show “A Bird’s Eye View”.

Then on Friday evening (March 30th 7-10pm) I will be involved in Art Center Sarasota’s fundraiser “I Concept”, an over-the-top, outrageous fashion show. Look for my entry “Birds of a Feather” , modeled by Pam Marwede, and let me know what you think of the getup!  For tickets please contact Art Center Sarasota.

Hope to see you soon!!!

We’ve been busy at Scarlett’s Feathers

We’ve been busy at Scarlett’s Feathers… attending rallies and meetings regarding the “paid” parking in the downtown area and the disruptive construction of the round about at Ringling Blvd. and Pineapple Avenue which commenced in the middle of December and is scheduled for completion by the end of April… It seems as if it should have started in April instead.

I was thrilled to see a jacket from my “Embellished Denim Collection” featured on the Shopping Page of the February issue of STYLE MAGAZINE. I am busy working on one-of-a-kind garments for 5 people who saw the article as well as a special project that will be in Art Center Sarasota’s “ICONCEPT”, an outrageous fashion show/ fundraiser that takes place FRIDAY, March 30th. The theme of my entry is “Birds of a Feather” and includes the Hyacinth Macaw feathers that Heidi from Casey Key gave me before she left town for a cooler summer elsewhere. I am thrilled that Pam Marwede and Rod Rodriquez are working with me on this over- the -top fashion statement.

Please stop in to say hello and check out the Fractured Tiles collection by Sally Adams, Art Quilts by Jackie Cory, new works by other artists in the gallery and new pieces in my Embellished Denim Collection.

Scarlett’s Feathers is open from 11-5, Monday-Saturday and from 6-9PM on First Fridays.
